Day 4: Santa Teresa – Hidroelectrica – Aguas Calientes.
Day 5: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Cusco.
The first day of the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu tour will begin with pick up from your hotel at 4:30 am to drive by bus to Mollepata, passing through the towns of Izcuchaca and Limatambo. After three hours of travel from Cusco we arrive at Mollepata (2800 m / 9186 feet). After a light breakfast we begin our walk to the area called Cruzpata where we are waiting for lunch with a beautiful panoramic view of the snowfall of Humantay 4120m and Salkantay 6271m. We continue our journey between valleys and beautiful landscapes to soraypampa 3800m.s.n.m, where we will spend the first night the highest and coldest night in our entire tour.
After an exquisite breakfast we started our walk. During the first four hours we will hike up the Pampa de Salkantay from where you can take pictures of the snowy mountains and nearby. We will arrive at the Abra Salkantay, with 4629 meters (15,187 feet) of altitude, is the highest point of the route. The guide will perform a traditional ritual: the construction of an apacheta (read article), which is our offering to the Inca sacred gods known as APUS, to give us permission and protection on our journey.
After four hours of descent will arrive to Wayramachay (4000 m / 13,123 feet) for lunch. From this moment the Andean landscape is replaced by a little more than vegetation. After three hours we camp on terraces known as Chaullay located to (2900 m / 9,514 ft) meters above the sea level.
We started the morning with a delicious and nutritious breakfast. We expect a hike of five hours in which we can appreciate the change in our landscape from the Andes mountains at the entrance of the high jungle. We will pass by the Andean Community of Arranyanniyoc, a sample of living culture. Cross small rivers and refreshing waterfalls. We will also see varieties of orchids that will captivate your senses.
We will have lunch in La Playa town, also known as Sawayaco. Once recovered energies will continue the descent by an hour and a half to Santa Teresa in full eyebrow of jungle, where we spend the night after dinner.
Important: Optionally, there is a hike to the hot springs of Cocalmayo (optional activity – We recommend your visit) see video. In these hot springs you can relax and swim surrounded by a sub tropical environment typical of the Peruvian jungle.
We started our fourth day of salkantay trek with an exquisite breakfast, then we restart our walk through the jungle eyebrow with a semi tropical humid climate. We can see a wide variety of crops such as coffee, coca, bananas and fruit trees. Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu may be seen in the distance along the way. Then we will descend to the old Hydroelectric Power Station from where we will walk along the rails until we reach the town of Aguas Calientes, this route takes approximately 2 hours. In Aguas Calientes town we go to our hotel where we will have private baths, hot water, wifi and a comfortable bed waiting for us.

Important: As an optional activity, at the beginning of the fourth day you can experience the highest and longest zipline in South America (optional activity – see video). Throw yourself on a rope and cross to the next mountain! We have all the necessary equipment to make it a fun experience as well as safe.
On the last day of our tour Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu, according our entrance to machu picchu we wake up early and hike to Machu Picchu, which we take an hour and half to reach the entrance of Machu Picchu and appreciate the magnificent Citadel of Machu Picchu If the weather permits we can appreciate the magnificent sunrise.
We will have a guided tour through the citadel of Machu Picchu for 2 hours after this you can explore the mysterious city of Machu Picchu on your own. If you still have energy you can also climb the Huayna Picchu mountain or machu picchu mountain(Optional Activity USD 30.00) which will take 45 minutes to reach the top this ascent is optional.
